It’s a personal preference. Many quilters do not prewash fabric (personally I don’t). Many will never make a quilt without fabric that has been washed. It’s totally up to you.

I am all set with my fabric choices but was wondering if the fabric should be prewashed. I haven’t seen where that was a step in preparing materials.

For some reason, sewing the individual blocks is fun but assembling the quilts is intimidating. I have also struggled with piping around upholstery fabric for an ottoman. The results were good (if you don’t look close), but at times I felt as if I was trying to rope a steer. Thank you for your wonderful videos. I look forward to watching all of them.

There is no “one right” fabric requirement for a project. They are all so different depending what you are making. I would start with a specific pattern and follow the fabric requirements listed on the pattern.

My wife tends to get cold during the winter, so I want to get her a quilt as a Christmas present. I’ll be sure to keep this article in mind as I look for quilting materials that I can use.
